Ballinasloe In June IÉ was granted planning permission for two additional car parks. One will have 67 spaces and the second will have 46 spaces.

Carlow Work started in June on extending the car park by an additional 80 spaces.

Cork The private property developer that proposed constructing residential and commercial property on railway land at Horgan’s Quay in the freight yard at Kent station has withdrawn from the project. IÉ said it was considering its options. The bulk of the area is no longer used following closure of the cement silo.

Drogheda IÉ has applied for planning permission to further extend the car park. 100 additional spaces will be provided on a site at the Drogheda side of the viaduct bridge on the Marsh Road, which will have a landscaped stair link to the existing car park and also a ramp for bicycle users.

Tara St On 28 July, An Bord Pleanála commenced a public hearing into plans by CIÉ to redevelop Tara St station. The process is in accordance with the new "fast-track" procedure for approving strategic infrastructure projects The station is used by 10m passengers per year and is IÉs busiest. IÉ told the enquiry that during certain events, including the St Patrick's Day Festival, the station had to be closed because its current size and layout meant it could not accommodate large crowds. The proposal is for a 60m high office block built around and above the tracks. The new concourse will be designed for 14,500 passengers/hour.

The application is similar to a previous one granted planning permission in 2001, but this was abandoned three years later because it would involve the temporary closure of the station whereas the current plan does not. A 10-year planning permission is being sought as construction is likely to take longer than the normally permitted 5 years.

Sligo IÉ has applied for planning permission to extend the car park by 180 spaces.
