STATIONS

Attymon and Woodlawn Platforms at these stations are now 178m and 177m respectively and will accommodate 6-car ICRs or 8-car suburban sets.

Clongriffin Work on the new station at MP55/8 north of Howth Junction on the Dublin-Belfast line has accelerated. By March, island platform structures were in place on both up and down sides and concrete bridge support structures for the station building over the platforms and the track were in place. A Sunday morning line closure took place on 29 March.

Heuston Entry and exit automatic ticket checking barriers came into operation at all mainline and suburban platforms from Friday 17 April. The barriers are also equipped with smartcard readers, to be fully compatible with the future public transport smartcard system currently under development by the RPA, which will include DART and Commuter rail and IÉs interim smartcard, which is due to be launched later this year.

Limerick In February, An Bord Pleanála granted planning permission for a €5.5m redevelopment of Colbert Station, after it was originally refused by Limerick City Council. The plans propose a new bus station to be built at the current car park and former container loading area to the side of the existing station building. New car parking facilities will be developed where the bus bays are currently located. A landscape garden is planned for the car park at the front of the station. An internal walkway will also connect rail and bus station.

Mullingar Restoration of the dilapidated canopy on the former up Galway platform has been completed in a very tasteful manner.

Salthill and Monkstown In February, IÉ applied for planning permission for ‘Retention of alleged unauthorized erection of steel railings on top of the seaward side-wall along the existing railway line’.

Tara St Several major projects to upgrade Tara St station and develop adjacent land banks have been proposed over recent years but none have yet come to fruition. In April, IÉ applied to An Bord Pleanála for permission to develop the facility. Total proposed development is 20,990m2 over fifteen levels. The development includes increased station concourse (1,800 m2), 342m2 of retail space and 14,990m2 of office accommodation in 10 levels over the station concourse and northbound platform. At platform level, a new glazed roof is proposed over the platforms between Georges Quay and Poolbeg St.
