, the new layout at Killarney for the mini-CTC takes shape. In the
foreground a welding gang is welding the joints between the different
sections of the facing crossover. The recovered material is on the bank on
the right. The former stationmaster’s field on the left, devoid of
topsoil, was used to pre-assemble the crossovers. The points and crossovers
have hard-wood sleepers while plain track has standard concrete sleepers.
The entire rail is 54kg/m UIC standard. In the background, the platforms are
being extended and the engine-release turnout commissioned under the station
roof. The former signal cabin is being preserved in situ. Some remains of
the former ‘check’ platform can be seen before the line to
Tralee
curves away. In the background is the spire of St. Mary’s
Church

Ireland
