STATIONS
Cork
The
former goods lifts that connected the underground passageway between Platforms
Nos. 4 and 5 are being replaced by passenger lifts.
Heuston
Check
rail has been installed along side one rail of the track in Platforms Nos. 2, 3,
4, and 5. The rail is designed to prevent a derailed vehicle colliding with the
cast iron roof supports between the tracks.
Platform
No. 5 re-opened on Saturday 21 February following completion of the structural
works for the new secondary concourse at the buffers of Platforms Nos. 6, 7 and
8. The Heuston station development, including the secondary concourse, was
officially “opened” by the Minister for Transport on Monday 22 March. The
€117m project, including new and re-built platforms, passenger facilities,
track, signalling and the new train wash, was completed €7m under budget.
Heuston caters for 4.5m passengers annually.
In
March, platform 1 was taken out of service to allow construction of a new steel
canopy. Platform 2 was also taken out of service for a short period to extend
the canopy from Platform 1 to meet with the existing station roof.
Laytown
A
new pedestrian bridge with integrated lifts is being constructed, providing
access for mobility impaired to both platforms.

Carrick-on-Shannon (127m long) and Ballymote (152m long) to 174m. Platform
extensions are also planned for
Sligo

Dromod and the down platforms at Edgeworthstown and Boyle.
