IRRS Dublin Programme 2017


All Meetings take place on Thursdays in the Society’s Premises at Heuston Station at 19.30 
(unless otherwise stated).

26th August 2017
IRRS Open Day, 11:00 – 17:00, in conjunction with National Heritage Week.
7th September 2017 “Dead End Branch Lines” – a nostalgic slideshow of the branch lines of CIÉ during the 1950s & 60s presented by Leslie Hyland
22nd September 2017
IRRS Open Evening, 19:00 – 21:30, in conjunction with Culture Night.
28th September 2017 “Railways are Inherently Unsafe, They Have to be Kept Safe” – an illustrated talk about safety on the railway by Sean Heneghan (retired Technical Manager, Chief Mechanical Engineers Department, Inchicore Works, Iarnród Éireann)
12th October 2017 Enlisting in Armies; Irish Railwaymen, 1914 to 1923 – an illustrated presentation by Peter Rigney
26th October 2017 Member’s Slide Show – Irish & UK subjects only – presenters limited to 20 images – strictly 10 minutes per person (please contact the Hon. Programme Organiser, Shane Roberts, before this date if you wish to present slides)
9th November 2017 “Life on the Railway in County Laois” – an illustrated presentation by Seán Cain
23rd November 2017 Illustrated Historical Quiz night + prizes to be won! – Another fascinating photo-quiz devised and hosted by Ciarán Cooney and Shane Roberts.
27th November 2017
IRRS Annual Dinner at Wynn’s Hotel, Abbey St., Dublin at 18:30

19th December 2017
Christmas Library Night. 
(As this function costs around €5 per person, voluntary contributions would be appreciated on the night).

  Library Night every Tuesday from 19:30 to 21:45 (except December 26th 2017 and January 2nd2018)


Saturday 30th September 2017 Outing to Enniskillen
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the closure of the GNRI / SLNCR railways of Fermanagh and the Border counties on 30th Sept 1957.
